Thessaloniki  is the second-largest city in Greece.It is the capital of the region of Makedonia with population 1000000 inhabitants.It is Greece's second major economic, industrial, commercial and political centre, and a major transportation hub for the rest of southeastern Europe.Thessaloniki is famous for its festivals, events and cultural life and is considered to be Greece's cultural capital. Every year  it is organised Thessaloniki International Trade Fair and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival  in which many tourist arrive.It was founded in 315 BC by Cassander of Macedon.It was an important metropolis at the Roman period, and also the second largest and wealthiest city of the Byzantine Empire.

Thessaloniki has many Byzantine monuments, including the Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki, as well as several Roman, Ottoman and Sephardic Jewish structures.Most known are the Archaeological Museum, established in 1962 with some of the most important ancient Macedonian artifacts, the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the museum of the White Tower, a science Center and Technology Museum, the Railway Museum of Thessaloniki,  sports museums, including the Thessaloniki Olympic Museum and the Sports Museum of Thessaloniki, the Atatürk Museum and the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki.
